Meeting details

  • Date: 30/09/2015, 14:00- 16:00 (registration closed)
  • Location: Albert Borschette Conference Centre, Room 5B, Rue Froissart 36, Brussels
  • Registration closes on : 25/09/2015 12:00

The purpose of the meeting is to brief civil society organisations on the status of the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) negotiations following the 9th round of talks and to exchange views on the topic.

The EGA aims to remove barriers to trade in environmental goods to reduce their cost and increase their uptake globally. Environmental goods cover technologies crucial for e.g. renewable energy generation, waste management, water treatment, air pollution control, environmental remediation and clean up, environmental monitoring and analysis, and energy efficiency.

The EGA negotiations now focus on eliminating tariffs on a broad list of environmental goods. They build on a list of 54 environmental products agreed by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2012. The intention is for the EGA to become a "living agreement", which would allow the addition of new products to the list in future and to address other trade issues related to environmental goods (e.g. non-tariff barriers and services ancillary to the export of environmental goods).
