Report of first meeting of the issue group on Trade, Sustainable Development and Environment Brussels, 9 June 2000 The first meeting of this group was attended by between 40 and 50 people, and discussion lasted for a little over 3 hours. The objective was to agree what the agenda should be for the two next meetings, in June and September. There was agreement that the aim should be to identify stakeholders, not only from within the Commission, who would be interested in introducing discussion on various issues. The objective would be to ensure that all points of view related to the issues identified were clearly understood by all stakeholders, and that points of common analysis, where identified, were clearly recorded as input to decisions on trade policy that would be needed in future by the Council of Ministers, the European Commission and the Parliament. The subjects identified by the end of the meeting are set out below, together with suggestions for the organisation of future work. Next steps All interested parties are invited to offer comments on the approach set out in the annex, at the following e-mail address (robert.madelin@cec.eu.int), no later than 15 June.
