PANEL DISCUSSION

The European Commission in collaboration with the World Bank is pleased to invite you to a Panel Discussion:

ADVANCING DEVELOPMENT THROUGH MULTILATERAL TRADE: CAN THE HONG KONG WTO MINISTERIAL MEET THE CHALLENGE?

The World Trade Organisation¿s Ministerial Meeting in Hong Kong on 13-18 December 2005 represents a decisive phase in the WTO round of trade negotiations known as the Doha Development Agenda. The DDA, as conceived by world leaders in 2001, was supposed to place development issues and the interests of poor countries at the heart of multilateral trade. But can the Hong Kong Ministerial deliver an outcome that can help combat global poverty?

This meeting aims to provide an exchange of views between civil society representatives and some of the key actors following the multilateral trade discussions, the European Commission, the World Bank, the US Government, the ACP and the G20, on how best to ensure that the Hong Kong Ministerial meets the needs of developing countries.
