Lead participant: Mr Rupert Schlegelmilch, Head of Unit for Trade Relations with the Fareast, Directorate General for Trade

The aim of the meeting is to discuss a study on 'Future Opportunities and Challenges in EU-China Trade & Investment Relations'. The study will be presented by Mr Philip Bartley from Development Solutions. Media will be invited to attend this meeting.

The study provides recommendations to help EU business as it develops its trade and investment with China. It highlights business prospects, but also lost business opportunities due to non-tariff barriers in China. A detailed analysis is presented in 10 studies on specific industrial and services sectors.

The European Commission has set out its trade policy vis-à-vis China in the policy paper "Competition and Partnership" published in October 2006. How we react to China‘s emergence as a key actor in the world economy will be key to turning global economic changes into new benefits for all.

Agenda:

1. Introduction by the Directorate General for Trade

2. Presentation of the main results of the study

3. Discussion

Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the guidelines here.
