In recent years the use of food safety, animal and plant health rules as trade barriers for imports has increased considerably. An open and fair international trading system is essential to ensure that farmers, processors and traders can reap the full reward of their competitiveness. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for civil society organisations to share their views as well as engage in a discussion on sanitary and phytosanitary issues and trade.
