In July this year the European Commission published a Communication on a Revised Strategy for the Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in Third Countries.

The Communication examines the changes and challenges in the intellectual property environment since the original strategy was published in 2005. The revised approach takes account of an independent evaluation of the 2005 strategy.

The key objective of the revised strategy is to promote enhanced IPR standards in third countries and stem the trade in IPR-infringing goods, thereby ultimately enhancing EU competitiveness, growth and jobs. It highlights the tools the Commission has in implementing its approach in protecting and enforcing IPRs in third countries, and proposes ways forward in developing beyond these.

DG TRADE would like to invite civil society organisations to exchange views on the strategy and its proposed action points, in particular on how to improve the Commission's stakeholder engagement in order to raise awareness and guide policy, and its support on IP issues to stakeholders operating in third countries.
