The EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement negotiations were officially launched on 25 March 2013. The negotiations aim at concluding an ambitious and mutually beneficial trade agreement which will lead to economic growth both in the EU and in Japan. There have been ten negotiating rounds so far.

The Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) in support of negotiations with Japan was launched in September 2014. The consultants carrying out the SIA are LSE Enterprise. The SIA draft interim technical report summarises the work undertaken up to the date of the report and the main results obtained, including the consultation activities, and describes the plan to complete the work for the final report.

The purpose of this meeting is to update civil society on the state of play of the negotiations and to exchange views on the progress of the SIA. The SIA draft interim technical report, which will be made available ahead of the meeting, will then be finalised by the consultant taking stakeholders' contributions into account.
