Objective of the consultation
The European Commission has commissioned an independent assessment of the impact that trade negotiations may have on sustainable development. The work is being undertaken in a number of phases and Phase One and Phase Two have been completed. A further development of the SIA methodology has also been completed. A third stage in the SIA programme (Phase Three) is now being undertaken, and will begin with a qualified preliminary overview SIA of the Doha Development Agenda, and a number of detailed SIAs of individual sectors (market access, environmental services and competition).
