    • Abstract: In 2013, the European Union (EU) started negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) – the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership or TTIP – with the United States (US), the largest economy in the world. The EU and US are key trading partners. The US has a strong interest in gaining access to markets for services related to films and television – so-called audiovisual services. The EU, however, believes such services play a special part in culture and so should be treated differently to other services. Sometimes, concerns also exist about the potential impact of TTIP in other sectors related to culture.
