Trade for inclusive and sustainable growth - EU Development Days 2015 High-Level Panel

This page describes past events and is no longer updated.

2015 is the European Year of Development or EYD2015. The European Commission’s flagship event for EYD2015 will be the EU Development Days (EDD15), comprising two days of discussions and events in Brussels on 3-4 June.

Trade can be a powerful engine for development. It has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty over the last 15 years. The question today is how to make this trend continue and also how to make it encompass more countries around the world.

The Africa-EU trade relationship is about to enter into a new phase with the implementation of Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) with a majority of African countries.

It is now the right time to discuss what needs to be done to ensure that trade is a factor of fair, inclusive and sustainable growth for Africa in the next decades. How can both trade and development cooperation promote investment and fair growth? Which tools can we use to support African governments' efforts to create a stable, transparent and business-friendly regulatory framework, fight against corruption and stimulate entrepreneurship?

These and other questions will be discussed by a high-level panel, with participation of the EU Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström, on 3 June in the framework of the EU Development Days.
