Conference - EU trade and investment with china: changes, challenges and choices

This page describes past events and is no longer updated.

The spectacular rise of China is a major development of the new century. It will bring challenges both for China and for the rest of the world. How citizens, business and governments react to these new developments will be key to turning global economic changes into new opportunities and benefits for all. This is why the European Commission is committed to developing an innovative strategy for the trade and investment relations between EU and China in the years to come. Gathering the views of EU business and citizens is essential for this.

The Conference built on a study the Commission launched to assess the competitiveness of various EU industrial and service sectors vis-à-vis China in the future and the market obstacles they face.

The objective of the conference was to gather the views of EU stakeholders, in particular the business community, on our trade and investment priorities to enhance EU competitiveness vis-à-vis China. Discussions contributed to reflections on the input to a communication of the Commission to the Council.
