Economic Partnerships Port Louis - Mauritius, 14-15 March 2012
Stakeholders from the Eastern and Southern Africa and EU representatives discuss the implementation of the interim Economic Partnership Agreement
On 14 and 15 March 2012, representatives from the European Union, government officials, intermediary organisations and the private sector from Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles and Zimbabwe met in Mauritius to discuss opportunities offered by the EU-Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) interim Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
The interim EPA was signed by the four ESA members in 2009 and is now entering the implementation phase.
The seminar addressed cross-cutting issues, such as the benefits and challenges of the implementation of the EPA, in particular for the private sector, sector-specific aspects, fisheries, agro-processing industry, sanitary and phyto-sanitary standards, customs and rules of origin. It also explored options for further development of trade in the region in the future.
