EU-Latin America workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility

This page describes past events and is no longer updated.

On October 4, 90 representatives from European and Latin American governments, Civil Society, EU institutions and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) met in Santiago de Chile to discuss the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in trade and investment relations between the two regions.

The workshop, organised by the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission and the Delegation of the European Union in Santiago de Chile, addressed multiple aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and in particular the role of the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises. The EU policy on CSR recommends, takes inspiration from and goes beyond these OECD Guidelines in the CSR field.

This workshop was one of several meetings and conferences organised in preparation for the EU–Latin America Summit in Santiago in January 2013 with the central theme being "Alliance for a Sustainable Development: Promoting Investments of Social and Environmental Quality". The past workshop will also provide valuable input to the broader EU–Latin America debate on investments and and corporate social responsibility.
