Speech: The way ahead for the EU-Cariforum Economic Partnership Agreement

EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström is in Georgetown, Guyana today for a meeting with Trade Ministers from all across the Caribbean region.

Their aim is to take stock of the first five years of the EU-CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and plan the next phase of cooperation. The Commissioner highlighted notable achievements so far but also acknowledged that the 2008 financial crisis and incomplete implementation have hampered the EPA's ability to create economic opportunities for people in the region. She urged agreement on a work programme to get the deal fully up and running as soon as possible.
