Speech: Trade Commissioner at Flemish Parliament – What Flanders Can Gain from Trade Agreements Like TTIP

Cecilia Malmström spoke at the Foreign Policy and European Affairs Committee of the Flemish Parliament this afternoon and argued that EU trade agreements like TTIP have significant benefits for Flanders.

The region is already highly connected to the world economy through its highly competitive manufacturing and service sectors, including the port of Antwerp.

Agreements like TTIP would bring new benefits to sectors like the fashion industry, pharmaceuticals and maritime services like dredging. The Commissioner also welcomed the debate on TTIP and other trade agreements and outlined the changes the Commission has made on issues like transparency and investment protection to take criticisms on board. She ended by calling for the regional representatives to support the EU's efforts to open markets around the world.
