Commissioner Malmström in European Parliament for conference on future of trade policy

Speaking at the European Parliament’s Trade Policy Day, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström today argued that while the signature of the CETA agreement was a major achievement for the European Union, efforts were needed to forge a new European consensus on trade, including by Member State governments and Parliament.

She also underlined the need to continue moving forward, given the economic significance of international trade for the EU but stressed that a successful trade policy must also be promote and defend EU values at home and abroad.
