Purpose of the meeting

You are invited to a meeting in Brussels on 19 June to discuss the "Summary Report on Progress of the Dissemination and Stakeholder Engagement Process" under the Trade SIA of the EU-ACP Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs). In addition, an update of the EPAs negotiations will be provided.

The aim of the present Trade SIA is to assess how the current trade negotiations could affect sustainable development in ACP and in the EU. The Trade SIA helps to clarify the trade-offs emerging from trade negotiations so that the benefits of liberalisation can be maximised. It also identifies the likely effects of trade negotiations on economic growth, social development and the environment. As a result of the Trade SIA, complementary policy measures may be proposed to enhance the positive impacts of trade agreements on sustainable development or to limit possible negative effects.
