The EU-China negotiations on a Comprehensive Agreement on Investment were formally launched in November 2013 and 14 rounds of talks have taken place so far. The negotiations cover investment market access and protection, rules on licensing and authorisation procedures, transparency, sustainable development and a robust enforcement of commitments. Discussions are taking place on the basis of a joint text, established in January 2016 following the agreement of Chief Negotiators on the subjects to be covered under the investment talks. The 15th round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Beijing from the 9th to 12th of October 2017.

The Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) in support of negotiations with China was launched in February 2016. The consultants carrying out the SIA are from Ecorys. The SIA draft final report presents the findings of the analysis of the economic, social, human rights and environmental impacts of the negotiations, as well as the in-depth studies for three of the selected sectors (transport equipment, mining and energy extraction and chemicals). The purpose of this meeting is to discuss with civil society the draft final report that was published on 19 September 2017. The report will then be finalised by the consultant, taking stakeholders' contributions into account.
