The meeting aims at encouraging debate on the development aspects of Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs). EPAs are conceived as tools for development as they shall ultimately ensure a stable business environment and rule of law, thereby attracting foreign investments, and helping ACP countries integrate into regional and global economies. This includes removing barriers to trade, encouraging regional integration and boosting regional markets, ensuring that the ACP countries have adequate time to make reforms. These are further supported by provisions such as the right to regulate to protect the environment or the rights of workers and links to enhanced development cooperation to support the implementation of the agreement. The meeting will foster discussion on these different aspects.
