International Public Procurement Initiative (IPPI): final event

This page describes past events and is no longer updated.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade and the European Service for Foreign Policy Instrument are pleased to host the IPPI (International Public Procurement Initiative) final event.

The IPPI event takes place on Wednesday 13 November 2019, from 09:00 to 17:00 at the Bluepoint Conference Centre, Bd. A. Reyers 80, 1180 Brussels, Belgium.

Public procurement is a key negotiating objective and a major economic activity in most countries worldwide. Despite its importance, there was no systematic information available on the participation of foreign companies in public procurement contracts of key partners and the barriers these companies are facing while participating in government procurement tenders abroad.

The IPPI project's ambitious goal was to fill in this gap and create the most comprehensive procurement dataset based on detailed, firm-level publicly available data.

The success of this unique initiative made it possible for the first time to dispose of direct cross-border and indirect government procurement data in value and number of contract terms, as well as a detailed public procurement barriers’ collection. The project covers the following countries: the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, China and India.

Please find a summary of the IPPI Project here.

This opportunity brings together participants from different countries, including public officials, representatives from international organisations, public procurement practitioners, businesses and experts. The aim is to present the IPPI project and its main results, and to share innovative insights on new perspectives on international public procurement data openness and transparency.
