Commissioner Malmström and Minister Ulyukaev prepare 1 December trilateral talks on the implementation of the EU/Ukraine DCFTA

EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström today had a phone conversation with the Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Alexey Ulyukayev, in preparation of the 1 December trilateral ministerial meeting on the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (AA/DCFTA) between the EU and Ukraine. The preparations for the trilateral meeting were also discussed with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin during the visit of Commissioner Malmström to Kiev on 13 November.

The meeting in Brussels on 1 December will be the twentieth time that the implementation of the EU-Ukraine DCFTA is discussed either bilaterally or trilaterally, both at a political and technical level, with the participation of the European Commission. There is a continued commitment and openness from the EU side to achieve practical solutions to Russia's concerns on the implementation of the DCFTA, in particular in the following areas: customs cooperation, technical barriers to trade (TBT) and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues.

Commissioner Malmström has also offered to set up a technical trilateral working group that would follow developments on these matters, once the DCFTA part of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine is implemented as of 1 January 2016.
