EU and Australia complete first round of trade negotiations

Australian negotiators were in Brussels from 2 to 6 July 2018 for the first round of negotiations for an ambitious and comprehensive trade agreement.

Based on the negotiation mandate received from EU Members States on 22 May, the talks were formally launched by Commissioner Malmström, Australian Prime Minister Turnbull and Trade Minister Ciobo on 18 June in Canberra.

In addition to establishing negotiation groups and organising future work, in the first round the teams started substantive discussions on almost all chapters.

As usual in our trade negotiations, a report on the results of the round as well as the texts tabled by the EU will be published on the DG TRADE website shortly.
