Binding Tariff Information

If you would like to have legal certainty in advance that you are applying the correct classification to your goods, you can apply for a Binding Tariff Information (BTI) decision.

Binding Tariff Information relates to a legal decision by the customs authorities on the classification of your product. It is

  • issued for a specific good
  • provides certainty on your product’s classification
  • valid for a period of three years
  • is binding on you and every customs administration in the EU

To obtain Binding Tariff Information, follow the steps indicated here.

After obtaining the Binding Tariff Information, you must apply it to customs procedures when you are exporting or importing your goods.

You must also remember to declare it in your customs administration.

Look up more information on customs procedures on import and export on the website of DG Taxation and Customs Union.
