Combined Nomenclature and Common Customs Tariff applicable in the EU from 1 January 2024
On 31 October, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2023/2364 amending Annex I to Council Regulation (EEC) No 2658/87 on the tariff and statistical nomenclature and on the Common Customs Tariff was published. This Regulation establishes the latest version of the Combined Nomenclature (CN) and the Common Customs Tariff applicable from 1 January 2024.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
As from October 1, 2023, Regulation 2023/956 introduced the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) with the objective to reduce carbon emissions, put a fair price on the carbon emitted during the production of carbon intensive goods imported into the EU and encourage a cleaner industrial production through a methodology for calculating embedded emissions according to the Paris Agreement and the EU Fit for 55 package. This mechanism will be implemented in phases and is aligned with the phase-out of the allocation of free allowances set in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).

Restriction of microplastics in the EU from 17 October 2023
As from 17 October 2023, Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 restricts synthetic polymer microparticles on their own or intentionally added to mixtures with the aim of reducing the emission of microplastics in everyday products in order to protect the environment.
