Countervailing duties on subsidised goods

In addition to anti-dumping duties, your product may also be subject to anti-subsidy measures. These are also known as countervailing measures or duties. They offset the effects of an unfair subsidy from a trading partner and puts the product in a more competitive economic position when compared to other products in the market.

Countervailing measures can consist of different tools, but they usually comprise increased duties. A countervailing measure can be an additional ad valorem duty or a specific duty. It may take the form of a minimum import price or a 'price undertaking', where the exporter agrees to sell the product above a minimum price.
