Binding Tariff Information

If you want like to have legal certainty in advance that you are classifying your goods correctly, you can apply for a Binding Tariff Information (BTI).

Binding Tariff Information is a legal decision by the customs authorities on the classification of your product. It is issued for a specific good and provides certainty on the classification of your products.

In the EU it is valid for a period of three years and binding on you and every customs administration in the EU.

To obtain Binding Tariff Information, follow the steps outlined here.

Once you have obtained the Binding Tariff Information, you must use it for customs procedures when you import or export your goods.

You must also remember to declare it to your customs administration.

For more information on import and export customs procedures, see the website of DG Taxation and Customs Union.
